Illustrations based on the Greek myth of Apollo and Daphne. Apollo happens upon Cupid playing with his bow and reprimands him. Cupid is offended and gets revenge by shooting Apollo with one of his arrows sending Apollo into a frenzy over Daphne. Cupid also strikes Daphne with a different arrow that makes her spurn all romantic pursuers. In attempt to escape Apollo, Daphne begs her father, a river god, to save her. In his supreme wisdom (similar to the wisdom of the other male counterparts of this story) he turns her into a tree!
