by organic shapes in Klimt's shimmering paintings.
All photos taken by me at various cathedrals and palaces around the world, of close-up details of gold surfaces. I am interested in how textures and color from disparate sources can be swatched, and combined to create entirely new artwork. This pattern of wobbly square and rectangle tiles is inspired by details in Vienna Secession painter Gustav Klimt's glorious work, in which he liberally applied gold leaf to his canvases. I aim to capture the shimmering affect his painting give off when viewed in real life, as light reflects off of the raised painting surfaces.
