An array of flag irises based on original linocut print and watercolour textures. The iris was the original inspiration for the traditional ‘fleur de lays’ motif, used for centuries to decorate the very finest fabrics. Surrounded by lakes and wetlands, we also grow a variety of beautiful irises in the large pond we dug to encourage wildlife into our garden. In midsummer the whole area is swathed in floating clouds of colour, the blooms almost floating in the air above like butterflies as damselflies and kingfishers dive into the water. The variety of their patterns, texture and shades is a never ending source of inspiration to me as an artist, I hope I've caught something of the pleasure they give in these patterns.
