‘Sea Urchin Shibori by Su_G’ (https://www.spoonflower.com/fabric/8812244): My entry in Spoonflower’s 'Shibori' Design Challenge. Airbrush + watercolor © Su Schaefer 2019 ~ with thanks too to my husband who chose the background, the version, and the title. The design brief mentions that "the Japanese resist-dyeing technique of shibori dates all the way back to the 8th century" and that in the elaborate authentic process "fabric is folded, stitched, twisted and then submerged into an indigo dye bath. The distinct blue patterns are unique to each piece of dyed fabric". My process - with airbrush and watercolors and the use of a guiding background shape simulating the folding etc., seems a whole lot easier to me. But maybe less fun.
