The top part of the fat quarter has a coffin shaped outline that measures 7 inches at the top (opening), 12 inches at the widest part, and 21 inches long. The bottom part of the fat quarter is for straps. They measure 21x2.5 inches. They are meant to be folded in half width wise and sewn to make it a 1 inch thick strap. They can be cut to allow for desired lengths depending on how you want your straps done. Only one fat quarter is required to make one bag if you use store purchased fabric for the back. Get two fat quarters to have the same material front and back. A yard will yield you 2 or 4 bags.
