Maurice Pillard Verneuil was born in Saint-Quentin, France, and learned his craft from the Swiss designer Eugène Grasset. Maurice Pillard Verneuil later became a well-known artist and designer. He was inspired by Japanese art and nature, especially the sea. He is known for his contribution to the Art Deco movement and in particular for his use of bold floral patterns in ceramic tiles, wallpaper and other furnishing textiles. His designs encompass both Art Nouveau and Art Deco, later transitioning into his highly regarded geometric patterns. Verneuil also created numerous posters in France alongside well-known artists such as Toulouse-Lautrec and Chéret. His other collaborators included Armand Point, René Juste, Alfons Mucha and Mathurin Méheut.
